At the network's Tuesday session before the Television Critics Association winter press tour, Fox Entertainment president Kevin Reilly noted that there is no deal for another season of either show. Talks have not begun with NBC Universal, which produces House, about an eighth season on Fox. (...)
It's unlikely that NBC Universal would want to keep House for NBC's prime time — the ratings for the show are down while the costs are up. But never say never. There could be some temptation by NBC to overpay for the show, as new network entertainment chief Bob Greenblatt needs something that keeps the lights on while he tries to develop a new hit. The negotiations could get ugly.
"I think pride of authorship is going to keep him from wanting do it," said Reilly. "But you're looking at a pretty decimated schedule there. At least it creates some traction."
Reilly is more confident about reaching a new deal for Bones...
1) Fox's contract to air House is up at the end of season 7. Fox currently has no rights to season 8 & has not started negotiations with NBC for season 8 rights.
2) NBC is considering that they may not grant season 8 rights to Fox and instead air it on NBC.
3) It will depend on how much Fox is willing to pay versus how much NBC is willing to pay, because its an expensive show, and needs to make a profit for NBC either way.
4) NBC is going to try & bring production costs down this season (I assume by cutting the cast, special effects costs, size of the writing & production team etc.) because that's the only way they can make a profit as ratings are down & that means advertising revenues are down. Basically less money all around.
Its pretty much the same thing Maureen Ryan reported yesterday in her interview with Kevin Reilly, that there are no guarantees that Fox will air House next year, negotiations with NBC haven't even started & that NBC may keep the show for themselves (its on the TWoP media thread).

When asked if negotiations to keep 'House' for another season had even started (the show is owned by NBC Universal, not Fox, and Fox's contracts for the show expire this season), Reilly said they hadn't truly begun. "Everyone would like to see it stay put," he said. "Are they going to be unreasonable?" a journalist asked. "I don't know," Reilly said. Negotiating that deal will be one of the first tasks of new NBC president Robert Greenbaltt, Reilly said.

It’s no secret that a budgetary battle is being waged between Fox and NBC Universal over a possible eighth season of House. But that’s not stopping Lisa Edelstein from feeling bullish about the show’s future.
“Nobody at work seems to think it won’t [return],” she tells TVLine. “Everybody wants to come to a deal, and I certainly am looking forward to a Season 8.
“I don’t think anybody wants to see [House] go off the air,” she continues. “It’s a big show for Fox and for NBC Universal, so it’s just a matter of everybody dotting their I’s and crossing their T’s.”
If this does turn out to be House‘s final season, the show is going out with guns blazing. Monday’s groundbreaking episode “Bombshells” is proof of that. ”There’s some great creativity going on, things you’ve never seen before,” Edelstein gushes of the can’t-miss hour. “It’s really exciting. I love episode 15, I’m very excited about it. There are some fantasy sequences which are really different.”

There is a distinct possibility Fox could be arriving at the May upfronts without its longtime hit drama "House."
The network remains in last-minute negotiations with NBCUniversal, the studio that owns the series, in hopes of signing a new deal for an eighth season. However, the two sides are far apart in determining the percentage each will pay for the show's costs going forward.
NBCUniversal has given Fox an extension on the window of negotiation exclusivity. That ends April 15. If the two sides can't come to an agreement, NBCUniversal will offer the show to competing networks, including, of course, the Peacock, which would likely be more than happy to take the series away from Fox.
Another problem for both sides is that several cast members aren't signed up either. While NBCUniversal will exercise the options for Hugh Laurie and Olivia Wilde, Robert Sean Leonard, Omar Epps and Lisa Edelstein are unsigned for a new season and their deals would have to reupped if they were to continue.
Leonard has already committed to a Broadway revival of "Born Yesterday" that will coincide with the production of the new season of "House." Like most fall shows, production is set to begin in summer and Leonard will still be in Gotham.
The drama has been a staple of the Fox lineup for seven seasons, but ratings have been declining as of late, possibly because of shifting timeslots.
"American Idol" triggers a midseason shake-up that has sent "House" ping-ponging between Monday and Tuesday several times in recent years. It first moved back an hour from 8 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday beginning in 2007. Then the series was moved to Monday in 2008, only to move back to Tuesday later that year -- and then back to Monday in 2009.
According to sources, NBCUniversal is looking for the same deal it has had with Fox for the show since the sides renegotiated prior to season five: The network pays for cost of production, plus a premium because the success of the series.
Fox is looking for a reduction in that agreement because of the falling viewer totals and the high cost of production and cast salaries, which is often the most expensive part of a series that has been on the air for seven seasons.
When "House" first began in 2004, Universal wasn't affiliated with NBC, so the network didn't have the first choice to buy it from the studio.
Both NBCUniversal and Fox would like to have the situation resolved as soon as possible, especially with Fox entertainment topper Kevin Reilly needing to make decisions starting in the next week or two on pilot pickups. A schedule without "House" would clearly create difficulties that he, nor his boss Peter Rice, who is taking lead on the negotiations, would have previously anticipated.
Reilly is currently out of the office but is engaged in the discussions.
If a deal can get done between Fox and NBCUniversal for another season, negotiations with the actors will ensue. That process could take weeks, if not months, for all parties to come to an agreement.
Also, showrunner and exec producer David Shore isn't contractually on board for an eighth season and his deal would have be ironed out as well, assuming he wanted to continue.

Is House about to become homeless?
Variety is reporting that renewal talks between NBC Universal and Fox are going down to the wire, and if a deal isn’t hammered out by April 15, the Peacock (which owns the hit drama) may shop the show elsewhere.
Series creator David Shore, however, is operating under the assumption that not only will House be around for another season, it’ll continue to air on Fox. ”I would be absolutely astounded if there wasn’t [a Season 8],” Shore told reporters Friday during a conference call to promote Monday’s 150th episode. “Fox wants have to have a Season 8, and NBC Universal wants them to have a Season 8. I fully expect there to be a Season 8 and we’re proceeding on that basis.”
But as underscored by TVLine’s recent Q&A with costar Robert Sean Leonard, a more pressing question is whether House‘s current occupants will be back. While Hugh Laurie is contracted for next season, deals for most of the supporting cast — including Lisa Edelstein, Omar Epps, Jesse Spencer and the aforementioned Leonard — are set to expire in May.
Asked specifically about Leonard — who confessed to being very much on the fence about continuing on — Shore said, “I’m operating on the assumption that he’s going to be back. We love him and we value him. That relationship [between House and Wilson] is one of the cornerstones of the show. That male friendship thing is one of the things I’m proudest of on the show.”
Shore was less certain about the fate of Olivia Wilde, whose return as Thirteen after an extended absence serves as the centerpiece of Monday’s milestone hour. ”That’s yet to be worked out,” Shore said of the actress’ status beyond this season. “I certainly hope we have her. She’s wonderful.”

Is House grabbing his cane and jumping to NBC? Don't hire the moving vans just yet.
Fox's deal with Universal Media Studios, which produces the Hugh Laurie drama, is expiring, and as Variety reported Friday, there's no resolution in sight. That's led some to wonder whether Universal might ultimately move the show, entering its eighth season this fall, to sister network NBC.
Even though new NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt is high on his new development, the network could use an established hit (even in its ratings-eroded state) like House. But insiders tell TV Guide Magazine that under the current deal between Fox and Universal, that's not an immediate possibility.
According to those sources, a clause in the current House pact prevents Universal from shopping the show to NBC or any NBCUniversal network (such as USA). If talks fall apart and a window opens for Universal to shop the show elsewhere, it would have to be at a non-NBCUniversal affiliated network like ABC, CBS or TNT. (For now, Fox and Universal's exclusive negotiating window has been extended through at least April 15.)
Both Fox and Universal remain far apart on how much the network will pay in license fees. Variety notes that Universal is looking to maintain their current deal, in which Fox pays for the cost of production on House plus a premium. It's believed that Universal is also looking for a two-year deal, while Fox is looking to bring down its fees (given House's lower ratings this season) and strike just a one-year deal.
Further complicating matters: Deals for showrunner David Shore and several castmembers must be renegotiated (although Laurie and Olivia Wilde's options will be exercised). Cast member Robert Sean Leonard, in particular, is hinting that he's not sure whether he'll return.

The network and studio declined comment. But insiders close to the talks warn not to read too much into the clause that would prevent a move to NBC, saying it could be open to interpretation. They also remain confident that deals will be done for House in the coming weeks — although the House pact could indeed come down to the wire, perhaps just days before Fox announces its fall schedule in May.
"We'll get this thing done," says one source close to the negotiation. "This isn't the NFL. I'm not panicked at all."
Anything's possible — many series have jumped networks over the years, such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer's infamous switch from The WB to UPN. But when asked on a conference call Friday whether he was concerned that a deal wouldn't be struck, Shore told reporters that he "would be absolutely astounded if there wasn't, we are working on the assumption that there will be. As you all know, there is no deal in place, but negotiations are ongoing and Fox wants to have a season eight, and NBCUniversal wants them to have a season eight," Shore added. "I fully expect there to be a season eight and we are proceeding on that basis."

Allerdings ist ja OW jetzt international bekannt und eine sooo geniale Schauspielerin, dass sie Hugh direkt in den Schatten stellt, auf die kann man natürlich nicht verzichten...
